Favorite Filipino Recipes

As an immigrant American, I take great pride in my Filiipino heritage. My parents did a tremendous job raising my sisters and me, blending the best of the Filipino and American cultures. Time spent in the kitchen and around the nightly family dinner table is where much of life and learning is shared and lived out for the Filipino family. Here, I share with you some of my favorite dishes over which daily details and philosophies of life were discussed when I was growing up. Mom taught me well as she passed on these recipes to me. Following suit, I have handed them down to my own children to continue the traditions for generations to come.

Filipino cuisine betrays foreign marks and is highly characteristic and national. For the Filipino, there is no substitute than a home-cooked meal to bring them right back to the heart of their homeland and the heart of their people. Indeed, the Filipino home is a home of hospitality and camaraderie. If you, like me, look to traditions and native cooking as some treasured, surviving emblem of something dear in an ever-changing world, I pray you enjoy these dishes as much as I do. Blessings!
